Education: Other trades certificate or diploma. Tasks: Determine materials required. Study engineering drawings and blueprints to determine material requirements. Weld or bolt sections together. Set up and operate heavy-duty metal-working machines. Rig, hoist and move materials to storage areas or within worksite. Read and interpret welding blueprints, drawings specifications, manuals and processes. Operate manual or semi-automatic, fully automated welding equipment. Operate brakes, shears and other metal shaping, straightening and bending machines. Determine weldability of materials. Verify accuracy and completeness of data. Operate oxygen arc cutting equipment (arc-air), (AOC). Operate previously set-up welding machines to fabricate or repair metal parts and products. Examine welds and ensure that they meet standards and/or specifications. Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, charts and tables. Operate hoisting and lifting equipment. Verify machined parts for conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments. Verify dimensions of products for accuracy and conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments. Welding techniques: TIG. Flux core arc welding (FCAW). Gas metal arc welding (GMAW). Equipment and machinery experience: Brakes and presses. Cutting torches. Drills. Grinder. Shears. Saws. Area of work experience: Metal cutting.
