Who we are The Attorney General is the law officer of the Executive Council and is responsible to see that the administration of public affairs is in accordance with the law and to ensure protection of the public interest. The Legal Services Branch provides civil and constitutional legal advice and representation to all provincial government departments and related agencies. The Office of the Attorney General is seeking individuals to join the Legal Services Branch as Lawyers 1 and 2 within the Constitutional Law Group. What you will do The successful candidate will be assigned to the Constitutional Law Group and will work with other lawyers in a team setting and be responsible for conducting constitutional litigation and/or working with lawyers from the Litigation Group in constitutional litigation matters, appearing in all levels of courts and before administrative boards and tribunals throughout the province. The successful candidate will also be responsible for providing legal advice and opinions with respect to Memorandums to Executive Council, and other legal issues related to constitutional/Charter and indigenous law related matters.Work environment Location: Chancery Place, 675 King Street, Fredericton, NB Opportunity for hybrid work arrangement within New Brunswick, with prior approval from management Minimum 36.25 work hours per week We promote a scent-reduced environmentWho you are As a team player, you will possess strong interpersonal and communication skills. We are looking for diverse backgrounds that bring a combination of the following: Key Behavioral Traits: The successful candidates will possess the following behavioural competencies: Analytical thinking / judgment, Client service orientation, Effective interactive communication, Initiative, self-control/stamina, Commitment to learning, and Teamwork and cooperation.Need to have (essential skills and qualifications) Law Degree; Membership in good standing or eligibility for membership in good standing with the Law Society of New Brunswick; Minimum of 8 years at the bar for Lawyer 2 positions, and a minimum of 2 years at the bar for the Lawyer 1 position; Significant recent experience in litigation commensurate with the candidate's years at the Bar, including experience conducting hearings before any level of court, boards or tribunals; Significant recent experience in indigenous law commensurate with the candidate's years at the Bar. Please state your date of admission to a Canadian law society. Written and spoken competence in English is required for the Lawyer 1 position and for one Lawyer 2 position. Written and spoken competence in French and English is required for one Lawyer 2 position.
