Job details
To apply, *provide a resume and a one-page cover letter*. Both are *required*, and can be submitted as one document. This position is part of the Canada Summer Jobs Program. Applicants must be 15 to 30 years of age at the start of employment to qualify. This is a seasonal position. Training will be May 7 and 8, and we will be open to the public May 9 through September 7. Clean-up will be September 8 and 9. If employees need to return to university or other commitments before September, an earlier end date is possible. (Later start dates aren?t possible, but holidays mid-season can be arranged if other staff are able to cover tours.) Weekends are required, as most tourists visit on weekends. We are closed Mondays. Shifts typically run from 8:45 to 4:15. We are looking for interpreters to lead tours and help around the museum. Palaeontology, geology, and biology university students are welcome, as well as art, education, drama, history, and archaeology students - we take a multi-disciplinary approach to our dinosaurs and artefacts! This is the perfect position for a fun, enthusiastic person who loves spending time with children and enjoys art, dinosaurs, science, or nature. Devil's Coulee Dinosaur & Heritage Museum is a small non-profit in Warner, Alberta. We give interpretive, educational tours of the Devil's Coulee Dinosaur Museum and out at Devil's Coulee Dinosaur Fossil Site. This is Canada?s first official dinosaur egg nesting site. We provide the only public tours, on behalf of the Royal Tyrrell Museum of Palaeontology. Parts of the site have been excavated by notable palaeontology experts such as Dr. Phillip J. Currie, and Wendy Sloboda. Our museum is also unique, as we allow visitors to touch many of the objects. Interpreters lead tourists, school field trips, and summer camps on museum tours, also facilitating any tour groups with children in making an art project to take home. Interpreters will drive themselves to the Fossil Site to lead outdoor tours up to two hours long. (On days when the weather is too hot or if there is rain, you will only lead indoor tours.) Interpreters are also entrusted with keeping the gallery areas clean, performing gift shop sales, and various tasks around the museum. These vary, but could include gardening, producing artwork for exhibits or advertising material, or prepping craft supplies for children's groups. Warner is a village between Lethbridge and Writing-on-Stone Provincial Park, a perfect base for anyone who loves hiking and the vast outdoors. We offer a nominal monthly housing allowance to help employees who will need to rent in the area. There is free parking, a casual dress code, and a 10% staff discount in the gift shop. If you're interested in gaining work experience in an educational museum setting, and enjoy getting out of doors for part of the work day, then we're excited to hear from you. 1.
