Education: College, CEGEP or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 1 year to 2 years. or equivalent experience. Work setting: Dental practice. Tasks: Conduct initial dental assessments. Take dental impressions. Instruct patients regarding oral hygiene. Clean and stimulate the gums to prevent gum disease. Apply fluoride treatment. Remove stains and deposits from teeth. Take, develop and mount X-rays. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : Dental Hygienists Licensure by the appropriate provincial or territorial governing body. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Repetitive tasks. Manual dexterity. Fast-paced environment. Hand-eye co-ordination. Combination of sitting, standing, walking. Attention to detail. Work under pressure. Sitting. Ability to distinguish between colours. Personal suitability: Accurate. Client focus. Efficient interpersonal skills. Team player.
