Small Housing BCSenior PlannerREPORTS TO Executive DirectorLOCATION VancouverSALARY $100,000-$120,000 a year The Senior Planner will act as a subject matter expert to develop and advance professional knowledge of GDH, support innovation in both the government and development sectors, and enable the growth of GDH supply. The role demands a results-oriented team player who thrives in a fast-paced environment with exposure and/or experience consulting with the industry actors, public, committees and Council and possessing a solid knowledge of planning principles, practices and objectives of municipal planning. Specific Duties and ResponsibilitiesAdvance policy and regulatory changes at the federal, provincial and local government levels through government relations strategy Convene and facilitate high-profile cross-sector technical tables to address common challenges related to GDH Conduct research and develop tools and resources such as model bylaws, case studies and homeowner-developer toolkits Lead industry collaboration with the building and development sector, and public and private lending institutions to develop new models, products, and partnerships Provide technical and strategic support to select municipal partners for zoning and regulatory reform, approvals process updating, program supports, and design criteria and/or pre-approved designs for GDH typologies including houseplexes, single lot rowhouses, and various infill configurations Advise on pilot and demonstration project development, with industry and municipal partners Oversee the development of a map-based tool for multi-layer data analysis to advance gentle density planning, alongside our technology partner Organize webinars, networking sessions and peer-to-peer curated discussions to facilitate professional capacity and engagement Perform other related duties/responsibilities as assigned Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesThorough knowledge of the principles, practices and objectives of municipal planning Thorough knowledge of Local Government Act, related planning legislation, planning policies, bylaws and regulatory requirements Ability to understand and advance development process including proformas, lending instruments and other financial analyses Familiarity with architectural and design concepts Excellent knowledge of and experience with a wide range of public consultation and facilitation methods Experience coordinating professional communities Outstanding interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills Ability to deal tactfully on political issues and present professional recommendations and advice to various levels of elected officials Ability to understand and respond to government policy documents Skill in preparing and presenting comprehensive plans, reports and submissions Ability to travel for meetings and eventsQualificationsUniversity degree in Planning or other related discipline Minimum of 7 years? experience working in a local government setting, or in combination with architecture, development or other related sector experience Progressively responsible professional planning experience with an emphasis on development and policy planning Preference for planning experience in British Columbia Preference for planning experience directly related to GDHIf you?re interested in this exciting opportunity, send your resume and cover letter to info@smallhousingbc.org, showcasing why you?re the perfect fit for the position.
