The School Counsellor is a specialist who provides support for students with intensive needs. These personnel consult and collaborate with teachers, administrators, parents and other personnel or agencies to support student success at school. Furthermore, the School Counsellor acts as a liaison between the school, home, community and other agencies to help students function effectively and achieve their fullest potential.<p>Assignment and Term: <p> This position is a permanent .80 FTE. Hours of work per day are based on the needs of the school up to a maximum of 7.5 hours. This position is based out of Dr.Brass School. <p> The position commences August 26, 2024. Qualifications: <p> Post-secondary degree in a field of research related to Human Services, such as Social Work or Psychology.<p> Three (3) to five (5) years related work experience.<p> Demonstrated ability to take initiative and follow direction.<p> Must work well with others and independently.<p> Excellent time management skills.<p> Strong organizational skills.The successful candidate will collaborate as part of an interdisciplinary student services team to: Develop consistent, research-based practices that strive to support student learning and system improvement within a collaborative culture.<p> Provide direct counselling services to students and participate in the identification and planning process with regard to unmet needs of children and youth in the school.<p> Provide ongoing assessment and consultation regarding goals and activities to optimize the ability of students to function in their educational, home, and community environments.<p> Provide written reports regarding student assessment and recommendations and share them with parents and school division personnel through team meetings. In addition, the successful candidate will: Keep an electronic record of services provided to students using a school division data system.<p> Provide workshops and conduct class presentations and prevention programs on topics such as anti-bullying, abuse, social skills, etc.<p> Apply ethical standards of professional practice in the delivery of school counseling services, observing relevant laws and policies that govern practice.<p> Conduct home visitations when deemed necessary and appropriate.Salary and Benefits: <p>The School Division offers a competitive compensation package. The School Counsellor shall receive a salary of Class lll, lV or V on the STF grid from Step 1 to Step 8 depending on qualifications, education, and experience.
