The Operations Department needs a new Deputy Director of Operations to lead the Engineering and Public Works team in this growth.As the Deputy Director of Operations, you will report to the Director of Operations and Intergovernmental Relations. Your primary responsibility will be to lead the Engineering and Public Works team in designing and completing complex municipal engineering projects that involve underground, surface and above-ground infrastructure. You will collaborate with municipal and regional partners to further common infrastructure management goals, represent the municipality in regional project partnerships, and seek alternative funding for special initiatives. You will have a significant amount of independent judgment within the limits of approved budgets and departmental priorities.To be successful in this role, you will be a registered Professional Engineer or Professional Licensee in Civil Engineering, have six years of experience directly related to the core work of the position, with a minimum of one year of managerial experience (which includes the review and certification of engineering work completed by subordinates). You will be required to have a license to practice professional engineering in BC (i.e., a member in good standing with Engineers and Geoscientists of BC), plus possession of a valid BC Class 5 Driver?s License and a personal vehicle suitable for use as and when required. Certification as a Project Management Professional (PMP) and MMCD Contract Administration Certification are valuable assets.If this is you, we invite you to join our team.What you?ll do?Provide leadership to a team of professional engineers and technical staff responsible for complex engineering, project management and technical work, including design and construction of major capital projects related to all infrastructure. Supervise, direct, and motivate staff toward division, department, and corporate objectives while ensuring all departmental staff adheres to workplace conduct standards. Lead, coach, mentor and develop staff through leadership, supervisory and technical training. Responsible for employee recruitment and selection within the section, collective agreement administration and performance management. Accountable for budget administration, including preparation, monitoring, analysis and reporting. Assist in preparing annual and 5-year capital plans. Oversee work carried out by multi-disciplinary consultants and contractors, including reviewing and providing direction on design, construction and contract administration, including claims resolution.
