Just 50 km north of Victoria and 30 km south of Nanaimo, the Cowichan Valley offers a warm climate and numerous parks, recreational, cultural, and social opportunities. A temporary part time Truck Driver position is available, for up to three (3) months, related to a backfill for a medical leave, in Solid Waste Operations within the Recycling & Waste Management Division of the Operations Department at the Cowichan Valley Regional District (CVRD). The regular part time incumbent of this position will return when their temporary position has ended.General Information Reporting to the Manager - Solid Waste Operations and supervised by the Recycling Leader V, the Truck Driver contributes to the effective operation of CVRD Recycling Facilities through the efficient and safe collection and hauling of residential and commercial waste using tandem axle collection trucks and other equipment as required.Qualifications Secondary School graduation or equivalent Curbside Truck driving: Two (2) years of driving experience in a related field using a Class 3 Driver?s License or 6 months of driving for CVRD using a Class 3 Driver?s License is required Roll-Off Truck driving or Relief Curbside Truck driving: Two (2) years of driving experience in a related field using a Class 3 Driver?s License is considered an asset Experience in customer relations and conflict management Valid Class 3 BC Driver?s License with Air Brake Endorsement Level 1 First Aid with CPR Front End Loader Operator Safety Training certificate from a qualified instructor - employer provided Excavator Operator Safety Training certificate from an accredited institution would be an assetA full job description listing all the job requirements can be viewed online at careers-cvrd.icims.com.Hours of Work: This temporary part time position is guaranteed 30 hours of work per week and may be scheduled up to 40 hours per week. Shifts are scheduled based on operational need. The successful applicant must be available to work a flexible schedule that includes a variety of days and hours per week.Salary: This position is unionized (USW Local 1-1937). The Step 1 wage rate is $32.99 per hour and the Step 2 wage rate is $35.01 per hour (2023 wage rates).
