NLHealthServices.caJob SummaryThe Primary Health Care Program is seeking an advanced professional clinical occupational therapist to fulfill a Occupational Therapy role within vulnerable populations with a focus on transitional living . This work is grounded in trauma informed, harm reduction philosophy providing person-centered, evidence-based, compassionate, comprehensive, sustainable healthcare with excellence in quality, service, and access. The Occupational Therapist will recognize the social, structural, political, and ecological determinants of health impacting clients. The Clinical Occupational Therapist II is responsible for professional and clinical leadership/supervisory occupational therapy work. The clinical occupational therapist applies clinical knowledge and skills to plan, implement, co-ordinate, evaluate and oversee occupational therapy services for the individuals within the vulnerable, homeless populations who are working to build life skills and improve their physical and emotional health in an effort to obtain, and maintain, stable housing. The work will include input into program and policy development including life skills programming, project development, quality initiatives, participating in evidence-based practice, education, and community capacity building. Clients will have barriers impacting independent participation in day-to-day activities. These clients are vulnerable, in poverty with chronic disease, degenerative disease, mental illness, cognitive decline, frailty, substance use, etc. The population demographic is diverse. In this role the occupational therapist will build respectful relationships with clients, team members, and others involved in the systems in which they work, using their skills as advocate, and navigator. Occupational therapy will include health and recovery promotion, mental health support, falls prevention, home safety assessments, equipment assessment/prescription, self-management, and community participation . Care will include supporting and educating clients and staff as necessary. Care will primarily be provided face-to-face throughout various locations and organizations.Clinical supervision will be provided to Occupational Therapist I's, and Occupational Therapist Support personnel where appropriate. These duties are performed under the administrative guidance of the Primary Health Care Program. The Clinical Occupational Therapist II will be responsible to precept Occupational Therapy students and offer other clinical education experience to students within NLHS.
