Unity Health Toronto?s Diagnostic Labs provide an essential service for patient care, research and teaching activities for UHT patient care programs. The Departments provide timely, accurate, safe and efficient services to patients and health care providers, offering full service Hospital base testing with state of the art equipment
The Laboratory Medicine/Pathology department performs over five (5) million tests per year that is critical to all aspects of medical care throughout the Hospital. The laboratory is committed to the academic promotion of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology disciplines within SMH to the extent that the Hospital becomes a magnet site for world class Laboratory Medicine Physicians, Researchers, Students and revenue generating activity.
As an integral member of Department of Laboratory Medicine, the responsibilities of the Director include: providing exemplary leadership and strategic management for laboratory services; ensuring excellence in the provision of patient care; establishing, overseeing and implementing appropriate systems to facilitate optimal development/implementation of a dynamic environment to support an effective infrastructure that will support lab initiatives; the achievement of corporate/program objectives and the creation of a healthy workplace that maximizes the potential of all who work, providing direction and leadership for the development of a dynamic human resources team performs planning and strategic operations responsibilities; performing quality management responsibilities; participating in special projects, corporate/research initiatives and other activities that support and advance UHT goals.
Ideally, the Director will bring a track record of collaboration and relationship building and be passionate about leading change and implementing sustainable practices that continue to enable a high performing, outcome-focused team. As a developer of people, the Director will have the ability to coach, mentor and empower medical imaging frontline leaders.
The Director of Laboratory Medicine will be responsible for a complex cross sited program that delivers a common service across multiple locations within UHT.
The Director is accountable for the leadership and management of all aspects of HRLMP's day-to-day laboratory services, including the support of our research and education activities. Collaborating with Medical Directors and field staff, its primary role is to support medical activities and understand diagnostic testing across all laboratory sites within Unity Health.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Contributes to and facilitates the achievement of specific objectives pertaining to program plans through the development of long range strategies/course of actions to ensure successful realization of corporate strategic direction for the labs;
* Utilizes ability to think outside of the box and creative license to provide strategic leadership/direction to drive initiatives and priorities geared towards improving the patient experience within the labs;
* Executes Laboratory transformation, including delivering on key strategic goals and metrics, all within an evolutionary mindset as it related to partnerships, service planning and clinical and academic excellence;
* Leads the innovation of clinical services models for the future including visioning and planning for new services, virtual care and current service optimization;
* Leads specific internal (patient) and external (community) engagement initiatives such as strategic and program planning, quality improvement and service redesign for the program;
* Partners with medical, clinical and other leadership for the development and execution of effective patient focused strategies to improve patient experiences and outcomes within the program;
